making real
the imagined
I am a Professional dreamer & maker. I strive for a holistic practice, blurring the boundaries between, art, craft, design and theatre - between form and function, where imagination lingers ...
context
Before colonization, the land I occupy was the home of the Wendat, the Anishinabewaki, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Neutral Confederacy / Attawandaron, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and the Métis Nation. Indigeneous people throughout the world continue to face colonial violence and environmental destruction perpetrated by global textile industries. In response, I seek to make things that matter, in ways that heal and honor Indigenous lives and the land on which we live; to bring awareness of and meaningful responses to climate crisis and social injustice. I strive to practice sustainably, never taking my privilege nor the complexity of working on this land for granted.
“Noelle Hamlyn’s sculptural work represents an intelligent hybrid of materials. Combining vintage life jackets with old suits, she creates conceptually charged objects that suggest multiple readings for the viewer. The ‘professionalism of male values’ for example, is conflated with notions of danger and emergency. Her work identifies topical and relevant issues in today’s fraught world.”
